Description

While I am waiting for clear skies and data from my own scopes, I decided to have a go at data from James Webb Space Telescope (https://mast.stsci.edu/portal/Mashup/Clients/Mast/Portal.html). Exciting data of course but It was not totally straightforward. Many filters to chose from and some artifacts to handle. In any case, here is my version of NGC7496 from four filters in IR (2000nm into blue channel, 3000 + 3350 nm mixed into green, 3600 nm in red channel). I found a useful overview of the JWST filters here (https://jwst-docs.stsci.edu/jwst-near-infrared-camera/nircam-instrumentation/nircam-filters). I used what to me would be the most logical palette, i.e. to include the filter(s) with the shortest wavelengths in the blue channel, the mid ones in the green, and the longest wavelengths in the red channel, essentially shifting the spectrum towards visible light. Processed in PI and PS (including Star XTerminator).

There are of course several other versions to be seen of the JWST data for NGC 7496 but I have not seen many (if any) like this one using only the near IR filters (so more close to the visual spectrum than many others).
